What’s a chocoholic in Paris to do the month of August??
Get to Saint-Germain, tout de suite!

Debauve & Gallais, the city’s oldest chocolatier, is (thank the chocolate gods) still open.

And it’s not like the bonbons are second-rate. There’s no need to cry or count the days until the other chocolate masters come back to town. I mean, look at these things…

Milk chocolate, dark chocolate, creamy ganache…

…truffles, cordials, pralinés…

by the petite bonbon or—pourquoi pas?—une grande boite. It’s August after all.

Miam! Miam! and how elegant is that lovely building - I think I'll settle for the- praline hearts- and perhaps un petit hazelnut log!!!

How gorgeous! We'll be spending 9 days in Paris in October and my list of must visit places for sweet treats has grown exponentially now that I've discovered your site :-)
It is so good of you to furnish this chocolate first aid for August report. Many thanks.
Just a question, though. When do the D & G folks get to have their summer vacations?
what a gorgeous shop! great post - thanx !! now I am hungry!!
Délicieux! Saint-Germain is such a beautiful area...thanks for the background information too.
It has been too devastating with all the chocolate boutiques and patisseries closed in recent weeks - it was my duty to share the surprise of discovering Debauve & Gallais open. The chocolate hush inside the shop definitely makes a visit worth it (I'm talking to you bistrogerard!), to say nothing of the praline heart - eight bites of heaven!
You're right, Frances, we should be a bit more altruistic and find out when the employees get their deserved time off!
Oooooooooooooo
I didn't know they stayed open in Aout
AND I didn't know they would let you shoot INSIDE!!
I have to admit I never even tried
Oh Woe is moi!!!
Love a new challange
merci
