The Parisian cupcake brigade continues

It’s clear. The Parisians have a devotion to macarons that is akin to New Yorkers’ obsession (albeit waning) with cupcakes. Ironically—or inevitably, I don’t know which—New Yorkers are now enamored by macarons, while cupcakes are infiltrating Paris.

The latest proof: Miss Cupcake, a two-week old cupcake cafe tucked into a little corner of Montmartre.

The view from the outside persuaded me to go inside.

Which is where baker Laurence Kreitmann, and her crew were busy frosting and decorating the next batch of goodness.

Mocha, chocolate, strawberry and more…

They have a wonderful homemade quality to them. They’re professional, but not perfect, topped with everything from jelly beans to berries to sprinkles, some puffing out of their paper carriers, others politely staying inside.

Now the question becomes, for the rest of my time in Paris, where do I invest my sweet calories: cupcakes, or macarons?

There is a very well-known cupcake baker in Paris named Little Miss Cupcake (Full disclosure: I am a big fan). It is scandalous that a store has opened using such a similar sounding name. I can only hope it was done unknowingly and not as a blatant attempt to exploit LMC's hard-earned reputation.

I visited Miss Cupcake a few days after she opened. The "patronne" was out at lunch when I did (probably lucky for her!). I paid almost 3 euro for a dry cupcake with a slather of icing and a few randomly scattered Smarties on top. I am not a baker and even I could have made something better at home myself.

Is this true? I know Cat (Little Miss Cupcake) through our kids. How scandalous. She is well-known and adored for her cupcakes. Shame on Miss Cupcake!

Like Cynithia, I know Little Miss Cupcake through our kids. She is one of the most generous and kind people I have met since moving to Paris. And she makes excellent cupcakes. Little Miss Cupcake is the mom of two young kids, a volunteer vice president for our association and the head of her own company, I really don't think she sleeps. It's a pity that Miss Cupcake is trying to piggyback on Little Miss Cupcake's success. Guess she skipped Business Ethics 101 while looking for a free ride.

We happened across the Miss Cupcake store last week during our stay in Paris. We ended up throwing the box in the garbage - they were disgusting and stale. Thankfully we found Berko a few blocks away where the selection was amazing and the cupcakes to die for!

I am a friend of Cat's (LITTLE MISS CUPCAKE) and fellow cupcake baker! I think it's ATROCIOUS and downright evil for someone to come in, steal the name of someone else (who has worked hard to establish a name and reputation), and use it without thinking of how that would affect the person who was the first one to come up with the name more than two years ago. I will NOT be stopping by this place at all, in fact, I'm boycotting it, because I think it's dirty and low what she did to Little Miss Cupcake!
It shows me what kind of person this "Miss Cupcake" must be and if that's how dirty she plays, I want absolutely NO part of any of her cupcakes...
Karma will come back to her...
